LISTEN TO THE MUSIC PLAYING IN YOUR HEAD.

HAVING MOVED TO LIVERPOOL IN SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR 2021, THE TRANSITION HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE, MOVING TO A NEW PLACE AND STARTING A NEW JOURNEY.

MOVING TO THE BIRTH PLACE OF THE BEATLES AND EXPERIENCING ALL OF WHAT LIVERPOOL HAS CONNECTED TO IT THROUGH JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE AND RINGO IS MIND BENDING, SEEING THE PLACES THEY ALL GREW UP AND FREQUENTED REALLY ALLOWS YOU TOO IMMERSE YOURSELF INTO A PART OF THE BEATLES HISTORY AND LEGACY FROM PLACES SUCH AS WHERE JOHN MET PAUL AT THE WOOLTON PARISH CHURCH GARDEN FETE ON THE 6TH OF JULY 1957 (MACLENNON DAY).

THE FAMOUS CAVERN CLUB, PENNY LANE AND STRAWBERRY FIELDS ARE BUT A FEW OF THE MANY PLACES OF INTERESTS FOR BEATLES FANS IN AND AROUND THE CITY. (I STILL HAVE TO PINCH MYSELF SOMETIMES)

THE CULTURE AND THE PEOPLE MAKE IT A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE ALSO WITH GREAT CITY PUBS AND CLUBS ALMOST EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK.

THE REASON IM WRITING THIS IS BECAUSE I JUST WANTED TO ADDRESS THE THE DOCUMENTARY DIRECTED AND PRODUCED BY PETER JACKSON ABOUT THE LET IT BE SESSIONS AND THE FACT THAT THIS BROUGHT IT ALL BACK TO ME ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT THE BEATLES ARE NOT TO JUST LIVERPOOL BUT TO MODERN CULTURE AND MUSIC IN THE WAY THEY SHAPED THE LANDSCAPE IN THEIR MUSIC, LYRICS AND ALBUMS AND HOW IT CIRCUMVENTED THE GLOBE THROUGH OUT MODERN MUSIC HISTORY AND THEIR MUSIC IS STILL AS IMPORTANT AS IT WAS THEN.

THE DOCUMENTARY IS NOW STREAMING ON DISNEY+ AND IS WELL WORTH THE SUBSCRIPTION FEE TO EXPERIENCE THE GET BACK SESSIONS OF THE BEATLES.

GANTON STREET REVISITED.

I’ve been going to Carnaby Street shopping for clothes since the 80’s and noticing the change on the street since that time has bern interesting watching the change especially the mod shops and how they’ve either disappeared or changed with the gentrification of the times. Revisiting last week and looking for the mod shops was this time quite difficult as there seemed to also having vanished. I stumbled across Sherry’s and called in to be met by a woman who was willing to help advise and stop and chat about her experiences since opening up in 1979. I said that I remember Sherry’s being on Ganton Street and we had a conversation about her movements since that time and how she’s managed to keep the shop alive. I showed her some old photographs which she recognised as being where their first shop was. I was glad she was still open especially as times have been difficult recently for the retail industry. The photos on wall were of her with the likes of Weller, Liam and the legend Kenny Jones of The Small Faces and The Who. The shopping experience in Sherry’s was great and having a chat about the mod movement and how it still resonates with people including high profile mods too was uplifting as some bloke walked in and exclaimed “ I used to wear all this stuff” then just walked back out. The clothing is timeless, smart and affordable. Sherry’s shop is flying a mod flag or should I say target loud and proud and I hope it keeps going for many years to come.

THE GIRL WITH THE PSYCHEDELIC TAMBOURINE.

Was written last year and incorporated original lyrics set to a slowed down version of ‘Little Green Bag’. The song was a collaboration by a group of girls doing the backing and written lyrics on the day by Johnny Shotton. The song was written about a young woman who had a incredible effect in what I was doing at the time and had such a unique style that she inspired me to write about the way she asserted herself in life, with an air of ‘ I don’t give a fuck’,yet struggling with her mental health, but carried herself with such a rock n roll attitude it was easy to come up with the words to this song.
